Fracture of the fourth or fifth metacarpal and injuries to the fourth and f. Gutter splint thumb spica splint indications l fractures and soft tissue injuries of 5th digit l fractures of the neck shaft and base of 4th and 5th metacarpals construction l start at mid forearm l extend down ulnar forearm l end at mid distal phalanx l include the 4th and 5th digits application l hand in position of function l forearm in neutral position. An ulnar gutter splint typically extends along the ulna bone the bone on the pinkie finger s side of the forearm partially covering the arm from just below the elbow to the palm or pinkie. Patients were immobilized for 3 weeks in a conventional forearm based ulnar gutter or hand based thermoplastic splint.

Primary outcome was difference in active range of motion between splint groups. Gauze is one item used when applying a ulnar gutter splint. Immobilize wrist and finger for proximal middle phalanx fractures. Custom fabricated ulna gutter intrinsic position splint pip dip joints of finger included purpose.
